In 1997, Studio 3 Design Group was contracted by Augusta Preparatory Day School to provide master planning services for their campus in Columbia County, Georgia. The growing campus was hampered by awkward circulation patterns, a shortage of adequate parking, haphazard utility distribution and a lack of architectural consistency. The new Master Plan that was developed addressed the traffic patterns by re-directing the flow of vehicular traffic on campus, provided additional stacking at all drop-off points and developing a new one main entrance to the campus. The new main entrance was strategically aligned with an existing roadway to entice the County to install new stop lights and turn arrows at that location. The shortage of parking was addressed by an expanded lot adjacent to the upper school campus, and smaller lots at the athletic facilities, and lower school building. Additional facility needs were addressed in the new Master Plan with expansions to the lower, middle, and upper schools, an additional gymnasium, a new fine arts facility, and expansion of the main library. To upgrade the school’s athletic facilities, the existing soccer field was reoriented to meet sun angle requirements and allow space for a 3 mile track. The plan also incorporated a new baseball field and new stadium seating to accommodate the school’s baseball and football programs.
