This facility is the key component and addition to the Columbia County government’s “public campus” which places several county facilities, including several county offices and a new courthouse into a pedestrian friendly setting. The library is located on a beautifully wooded site that provides views toward a man-made lake, walking trails, and a new amphitheater. The county’s envisioned the library as a community center. Unique to most public libraries, the new facility includes a small theater with seating for 300 people, and a fully functioning stage, and a café. Also featured, are four computer classrooms positioned within the facility to serve as remote classrooms for a local community college and available for community use. The library features a children’s area, children’s program rooms, the new materials collection as well as a café and library bookstore on the main level. The lower level includes the services that are more research oriented and acoustically sensitive such as the adult computer area, the reference collection, adult fiction, the non-fiction collection, microfilm area, back-file periodicals, conference/study rooms, and the Columbia County history room. |
