In the fall of 1995, Studio 3 Design Group, P.C., in association with Craig, Gaulden & Davis, Inc. of Greenville, South Carolina, was commissioned to design a new sanctuary for First Baptist Church of North Augusta. The church wanted a larger sanctuary to seat 1,700 attendees. A fan shaped design was chosen for the new sanctuary to provide short sight lines from the back row of pews to the pulpit and a flexible plan for various worship styles. A wrap around lobby allows multiple entrances into the sanctuary and large areas for gathering. Traditional architectural elements fit into the context of the existing church campus. Other features of the addition include a tiered choir rehearsal room, a new orchestra rehearsal room, an expansive welcome center and a landscaped courtyard, connecting the old and new sanctuaries. |
