Built in 1921 in the historic Summerville neighborhood, this home's gardens were famous in the heyday of Augusta’s resort era, but years of use as apartments, the addition of a pool, and changing transportation needs had left the backyard a hodgepodge of unusable spaces. The home included an abandoned attached greenhouse on whose foundations a new covered porch was added with new French doors accessing the living area. Along with this addition, a large terraced bluestone patio, outdoor kitchen, fountain area, and paths connecting the pool and parking area were added to make the rear of the property once again a beautiful place for parties and entertaining. Careful attention was paid to match brick and cast stone details and lighting to tie these new areas into the existing architecture. The house, once closed off to the backyard, now features an easy flow between interior and exterior public spaces. |
