Studio 3 Design Group, P.C. was commissioned in 2008 to renovate the Tifton-Tift County Public Library. The Public Library occupies a 100 year old historically significant building that at one time served as Tifton's Post Office. In the 1980's the library completed a large addition to accommodate its growth. Since that time, various and minor interior alterations and renovations have been made to the facility. The goal of the project was to restore the architectural integrity of the original historic structure while updating and expanding the overall facility to provide modern library services to Tifton's citizens. The new design for the historical wing of the facility features an internet café, new Books collection, the Audio/Visual collection, the main circulation desk, and administrative offices. The two story space, which once served as the bank lobby, has been restored to its original form to provide an elegant entry and circulation area. The ground floor of the 1980s addition has been re-configured to accommodate a public meeting room, the children and work area, a new boardroom and public toilets. The adult fiction, reference, genealogy and computer workstations are located on the second floor in a quieter environment. The exterior is designed to accentuate the historic details of the original building, utilizing new and restored divided light double hung windows, cast stone sills and lintels, and matching brick veneer. |
